How we collect and use (process) your personal information

Spear Legal collects personal information about its site users, potential customers and clients. With a few exceptions, this information is limited to the kinds of information that can be found on a business card: first name, last name, job title, employer name, work address, work email, and work phone number.

We use this information to provide site users and customers with our services, including privacy and data protection content, advice and training. We do not sell personal information to anyone and only share it with third parties who are facilitating the delivery of our services, such as IT processing by our partners hosting our site.

Use of the Spear Legal website

Transferring personal data from the EU to the US

Spear Legal has its headquarters in the UK. The Information we collect from you will be processed in the UK and EU, you acknowledge and consent to the processing of your data by Spear Legal.

We do not usually send any data for processing to the United States. The USA has not sought nor received a finding of “adequacy” from the European Union under Article 41 of the GDPR. Regardless the rules governing data transfers are due to change when the UK leaves the EU after completion of the UK Exit transitional period at the end of 2020, we will then amend our policy and procedures in line with the new rules at that time.  

If in the event any personal data is collected and/or transferred to the U.S. it is with your consent and only to perform a contract with you; or to fulfil a compelling legitimate interest of Spear Legal in a manner that does not outweigh your rights and freedoms.

Spear Legal always endeavours to apply appropriate and suitable safeguards to protect the privacy and security of your personal data and to use it only consistent with your relationship with Spear Legal and the practices described in this Privacy Statement. Spear Legal also enters into data processing agreements and uses EU model clauses with its vendors whenever feasible and appropriate.

Spear Legal retains data for the duration of the customer’s business relationship with Spear Legal and for a period of time thereafter in line with our statutory requirements.
